Madrid WCS

After a solid result in Seoul, I had a great start number for Madrid. Again, I was very happy with my start position. I got out very smoothly and jumped onto a good swimmers feet. I was out beautifully until the banana buoy. I really think these cause major problems in draft legal races. Trying to swim on an arch for that length of time just stinks. I went way to wide and ended up losing the first pack. With our top Americans up the road in the main group, I was not going to contribute to the efforts of our chase group. Instead I pushed the downhill and sat in for everything else. It was HOT out there; I went through both of my bottles on the bike. The run course was shaded but they screwed up one of the water stations by putting it to one side of the road, and it was supposed to be in the middle of the road so we would pass it in both directions. Unfortunately we had to go almost two kilometers of each lap without water. This really got to me on laps three and four. I finished up as the 3rd American again, and placed 43rd. Lesson learned: Sometimes you just gotta throw yourself in the middle of the swim pack, getting bumped around is a part of the game now.
