After feeling less than great in Kitzbuhel, I had a chat with Coach TC and determined that it was time to get a training block in. While in Europe I had to rest a lot thanks to travel and racing, it had been over a month since I’d really had an opportunity to train. I got a few key sessions prior to leaving for Lausanne and felt MUCH better. Jarrod and I also had the opportunity to do a bit of training with Greg and Laura Bennett. They have so much experience in our sport that it’s great to spend time with them chatting about the “old days”, different race experiences, training ideas and just the busy life of triathletes.
Race day was beautiful, pretty much idea race conditions. I chatted with Cam Dye and Dustin McLarty about their start position and made my decision. I got incredibly lucky and found a spot in pretty much an ideal spot. I had a good start and got off on the feet of Emma Moffat and Lisa Norden. As we started to head back towards the exit ramp, I could see that I was still in a good position. I exited the water and saw I was a little further back than I had realized, I put my head down on the bike and got on the group. We weren’t too far back from the next group and we caught them on the second lap of the four lap bike. Unfortunately, Lisa Norden, Daniella Ryf and Emma Moffat had gotten away early on the bike and created a gap immediately. We were not able to close the gap and came off about a minute down.
I went onto the run after having a good T2. I was amazed how good I felt starting the run. When I came around on the first loop, I was outrunning some really good girls. I was feeling really excited and I could see that if I could hold on to the pace, that I could come top 15. I was able to hold my position and cross the finish line in 14th place. I was very excited about this result. This is my highest placing at a world championship ever. I have another French Grand Prix race this weekend in Tours. Thanks for reading!
